Well, if you reread your Bible – specifically Genesis 3:14 – it says, The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, cursed are you among all animals and among all wild creatures; upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life."  
 
"Upon your belly shall you go..."  To me, this makes it sound like serpents had some other means of locomotion up to this point — and unless it by bouncing on its tail like a pogo stick, it would seem to me that it must have had legs.   And as a point of fact, modern python and boa constrictor skeletons still display vestigial hind leg bones.
