Air New Zealand Explains Airline Safety

Air New Zealand is the official airline of Middle-Earth. And they take full advantage of the title, with a flight safety video that has an overwhelming Hobbit theme. This was directed by Taika Waititi, with appearances by Peter Jackson and Elijah Wood and cameos by Sylvester McCoy (Radagast the Brown), Dean O’Gorman (Fili),  and Weta Workshop co-founder Sir Richard Taylor. This almost – ALMOST! – makes me want to get a passport and book a flight to NZ just to get a chance to see more of these.  And I'm not even a LotR fan!

BB - you don't have a passport?

I don't have one, either. They are kind of expensive.

Americans are infamous for not having passports.
I hear (lol, read on the internet) that the vast majority of Americans, that means lots, don't even know there are other countries.
This ties in with their reluctance to move out of medieval times and use the metric system (well, while I'm here, why not ?)

But on topic - those adverts are very expensive, someone has to pay for them, and that would be the cattle loaded onto the planes !
A short flight from my town to my daughter's town ... same country, different island (no bridge, can't drive) ... costs more than a much longer trip from my country to my brother's country (ah, ok, New Zealand to Australia ... yes, they're different countries, over 2,000 kilometres of deep salty water between them ... and yes, that IS how you spell kilometres)
Paying those international actors more than heart surgeons and all the film crew and SF costs big money ... paid for by meek people just like me, forced to pay premium so non travelling Americans can say 'Oooh'.

To be precise, I have a passport, actually several, but they are expired. They are only good for ten years. And until recently, you didn't need a passport to go to Mexico or Canada.
